Screen Replacement Kit DROID Ultra XT1080

So these things are readily available for around fifty bucks. My old screen is completely destroyed and off the phone. Question is, should the phone still turn on with no screen at all attached? It vibrates every 30 sec to a min and will start to turn on ("Droii...") then quit, depending upon the button combination I push. Did not get wet, just wondering if this is normal when there is no screen attached or if it is not worth the investment to install the new screen kit. Thanks
