Text message recovery from broken Droid

Ok, so maybe I unknowingly dropped my phone in my driveway and the proceeded to drive over it with my truck. Yeah, it sucked....I'm not too happy about it. In any case, my screen is shattered and was told from verizon that there is no way they can get the text messages from that phone over to my new one. Really? There must be a file somewhere on the phone that I can import to my new droid. Any ideas?
