Can't set VOICE, only ENGINE and LANGUAGE in TTS. Fix?

The Google TTS voices are really good, and "free", but they have one serious flaw. Unlike when you have a voice pack and you choose it directly, there is no way to select a voice directly that sticks when it's a Google one. In the TTS defaults, one selects the engine (Google TTS), the language (English UK) and then I choose a favourite voice. But that doesn't carry through to most apps and it resets to what must be the "default" Google voice in the language pack (which I hate) every time...
