3 lock screen button presses

Hello all.
I don't think there is a solution but I thought I'd ask.

I always lock my phone, for obvious reasons.

For some reason, android chose to keep the swipe up stroke, even if the pattern option is chosen.

That means every time I use my phone I must push power button, swipe up, then enter my pattern.

This is a major oversight imo, unless I'm missing something.

Fwiw, I can't use iris or fingerprint login since my phone is in the car mount much of the time.

Any thoughts?
