Phone screen not working, but phone still works

First of all, this is my first post here so please forgive me if this is in the wrong place or I leave something out etc.

Whenever I stop using my phone i usually put it screen down on my desk and just turn it over when I need it again. I turned it over as usual to text someone and I noticed small little cracks in the screen. Not major cracks, small enough to be mistaken as scratches and there arent many.
